The Functional Pathway prepares pupils for life beyond school. Pupils begin their qualification pathway (either Asdan Personal Progress or Personal, Social Development and functional English and Maths). Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of life skills (specific lessons begin at Year 7), travel training, the world of work, moving onto work experience opportunities. Our careers programme begins at year 9 although preparation for adulthood is a focus throughout a pupil's school life. Work based visits and young enterprise activities allows development for work and teaches pupils about the type of work available in the local job market. Additional classroom based sessions focus on how to access the work place and cover topics such as interviews, health and safety, CV writing. A week of work placement takes place in Year 11 based on personal interests and abilities, initially supported by a workplace coach.
To ensure a broad and balanced curriculum our younger Key Stage 3 pupils will follow the Progression/Engagement topic based curriculum. For more information see Progression Curriculum overviews
